Lady Wolves dominate All-District Volleyball Team

In a season that began on a low note for the Lady Wolves, team leaders began to lead and seniors led underclassmen for a district championship and another trip to the state playoffs.
Led by eight seniors and a number of talented underclassmen, the Lady Wolves not only captured back-to-back district titles, but were also well-represented when selections were announced for the 2018 District 3 Division III All-District Team.
Leading her team to another district championship was Rayne High Head Coach Stephanie Garrett, a Rayne High alumni in her 35th year as the Lady Wolves’ volleyball coach. She was named the district’s “Coach of the Year” for her efforts.
Last year’s libero player of the year, Rayne High’s Trivion “Nae” Francis, was named this year’s overall MVP. The senior leader led the district with 15.75 digs per game, while also contributing over two aces and a kill per game average.
Lady Wolves named to “First Team” selections were senior leaders Elizabeth Daigle, Makayla Dronet and JaLayna Wilridge.
Daigle, a strong setter for the Lady Wolves, averaged over 23 assists per game for district competition, along with three digs, 2 kills and two aces per game.
Serving the Lady Wolves as middle hitter and blocker was Dronet, who averaged over eight kills, three blocks and ace per game. She was also a second team picked last season during her junior campaign.
Wilridge completed Rayne High’s first team selections. A middle hitter/blocker for the Lady Wolves averaged over seven kills, three blocks and ace per game. She was named honorable mention last season during her junior year.
Completing the first team selections throughout the district were Olivia Bundy of Church Point, Martayshia Guidry and Jocelyn Marceaux of Crowley, and Stephanie Vallejo and Kiaja LaCour of Livonia.
Named during second team selections were Rayne High’s Emma Guidry, Lexie Marks and Camille McClelland.
Sophomore standout Guidry was an outside hitter for the Lady Wolves who averaged over seven kills and a block per game.
Marks competed her senior campaign with an average of over eight digs and an ace for the Lady Wolves. She was named during honorable mentions selections last season during her junior year.
McClelland was an outside hitter for the Lady Wolves who averaged five kills, two digs, an ace and block per game during her senior year.
Completing the second team selections were Monet Cormier and Brandashia Andrew of Church Point, Tamyeia Guillory of Crowley, Bryanna Rodriguez and Corlette Richard of Livonia, and Katlyn Manuel and Mary Leday of Northwest.
Two Rayne High teammates were selected during honorable mention picks, including senior Lily Roberts and junior Ava Thibodeaux.
