Prep Roundup: Iota, Midland, Northside eliminated from playoffs

IOTA – The Iota Lady Bulldogs looked to be in control of their Class 3A regional playoff contest against Rayville early on Monday evening.
The Lady Dogs (22-10) took a 15-3 advantage in the first quarter and led 23-11 at the break.
And then the wheels fell off.
Rayville, the defending Class 3A champions, rallied for 35 points in the second half and scored four unanswered points with under a minute to go to slip away with a 46-42 victory and put an end to the Lady Dogs’ playoff run.
Rayville advances to the quarterfinal round on Thursday where they will play host to No. 1 seed Ville Platte.
Jillian Boone connected on three 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with a team-high 10 points. Brittany Johnson added a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter and finished the night with nine points.
Mallory Faul and Whitney Landry each pitched in six points in the loss while Cambri St. Andre added five; Madison Smith, four and Taylor DeVille, two.
Arielle Richardson scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the second half for Rayville. Damesha Daniels followed with 14 points, all in the second half.
Lady Rebels fall short
CASTOR – The Midland Lady Rebels fell behind early and were never able to recover in a 46-32 Class B regional playoff loss to No. 6 Castor Monday evening.
The Lady Rebels (21-15) trailed just 7-5 after the first quarter before Castor took a 26-16 cushion into the half.
Castor outscored the Lady Rebels 20-16 in the final two frames.
Katie Woods led the Lady Rebels with 14 points while Kristen Breaux and Brooke Comeaux followed with eight and six points, respectively. Nicole Kraut and Bethany LeJeune each had two.
In other prep action, the Northside Christian Lady Warriors dropped a 70-33 decision to Class C’s No. 1 seed Hackberry and Rayne was ousted from the Class 4A playoffs with a 60-41 loss to No. 8 seed Ellender Monday evening.
