It was 1971 and President Richard Nixon’s policy of “Vietnamization” was in full swing. Its stated goal was to train and equip South Vietnamese soldiers to take a bigger role the Vietnam War.

Recently, workers at Evangeline Brokerage, a Church Point lumberyard, were cleaning out a long-forgotten corner of an old warehouse when they pulled out a small, but heavy, crate.
Long before France founded the colony of Louisiana, it had a North American foothold at Québec or, as it was called, New France.
As the new town of Crowley began to develop, there was a push to encourage people to come and make a home here. Many came from neighboring St. Landry Parish as well as other parts of Louisiana.
