The Crowley Garden Club selected the home of Mrs. Barbara Lengefeld as Garden of the Month for April. Lengefeld’s amaryllis adorn her front beds while pots of geraniums line the drive. She has gardened since she was a small child in Maine. Her father always gave her a small plot of her own. She is currently growing strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, cabbages, tomatoes and snacking on broccoli shoots. Empowering the Community for Excellence received the Civic Garden of the Month award for April. ETCFE is a non-profit organization that provides free tutoring services for students in the Crowley area. The new landscaping was done by ETCFE friend Florena Cain DeJean. She added petunias, sunshine ligustrums and pencil point boxwood to the established beds, refreshing the beds with easy to grow evergreens and flowers for accents. The organization has future plans for a community garden and is always on the lookout for volunteers.
